On October 21, 1976, Mark Oberman along with wife Janie, pioneered the opening of the Camarillo Airport (formerly the Oxnard Air Force Base). Channel Islands Aviation, or CIA, is a full service Fixed Base Operation. CIA's facility includes 2 large hangars totaling 34,500 square feet of hangar space with additional 30,500 square feet of offices, lobby, school classroom and flight planning room with computerized weather briefing and direct lines to flight service.
CIA provides a variety of services which include New Cessna aircraft sales, Cessna Pilot Center (CPC) flight training, Chevron 100 LL and Jet-A fuel sales, ramp services and hangar storage, Jet & Turbo Prop charter,parts ,maintenance and avionics. Additionally, CIA provides daily routine transportation and air medivac support to a number of the California Channel Islands located just off the coast from Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
CIA operates a fleet of well equipped charter and flight school, rental aircraft including new Cessna 172SP's with the Glass Cockpit Garmin G-1000, 172RG, 182's with Garmin G-1000 Glass Cockpit, Beechcraft Duchess, Britten Norman Islander and Cessna 441-10 Conquest II.
CIA has enjoyed a fine reputation with its commitment to excellen  ce while providing highly qualified charter pilots and flight instructors and support staff. It is our commitment to professionalism and safety, with high standards for training, that has allowed our school to prosper while producing superior pilots. Graduates from Channel Islands Aviation flight training program will have received a well rounded instruction in aerodynamics, meteorology, airspace utilization, FAA regulations, aircraft systems, aircraft performance, navigation, and the use of charts and flight computers.
